The Gain Report

The Gain Report allows you to see how much progress Learners have made over a specified time in the chosen area, and whether this is considered to be statistically significant. The results of the report will depend upon the Learners selected and the reporting period:

1. The report will always show a list of Learners who have taken Assessments during the reporting period. This list shows Learners who have completed at least one Assessment, and shows:

  • The Learner's name,
  • The date the Assessment was taken,
  • A link to the Learner Progress Report,
  • The Score obtained and margin of error,

2. In addition, if a Learner has taken more than one Assessment, the Report will include the details of the final Assessment taken and:

  • The elapsed time between the initial and final Assessment,
  • Any gain made between the two Assessments, and whether the gain is statistically significant (indicated by an asterisk next to the gain figure),
  • the margin of error for this gain.

3. Finally, if 10 or more Learners have completed more than one Assessment, the report also shows the results as two box and whisker series that summarise this data.

Note: that the Gain Report will always look at the initial and final Assessments taken by any Learner, so if a Learner has taken three or more Assessments during the reporting period selected, the Assessments in between these will not be included in the report.

To run the Gain Report, from the Learners tab:

  1. Select the Learners that you wish to report on.
  2. In the Gain Report panel on the side menu, select an Assessment area and date range on which you wish to report.
  3. Select the View Report link.

Filtering results in the Gain Report

The Gain Report allows you to filter values that it displays after you have generated it. The following filters can be applied:

  • Gender
  • Ethnicity
  • Whether Learners have English as a first language
  • Seeing only those Learners who have completed two Assessments.

Note: You can also sort the list of Learners by Name, Date of Assessment, Score, Error, Elapsed time between Assessments, Gain and Gain Score Error by selecting the up or down arrows next to the column headings.
